Cluses

Cluses is a town nestled in the Arve Valley between Geneva and Chamonix. It spreads through a narrow river valley and connects to surrounding areas by rail.

Clockmaking became established here from 1720 onward and turned the place into a center of precision work. After a major fire in the mid-1800s, rebuilding introduced fresh architectural styles to the town.

Clockmaking shaped local identity here for generations and remains woven into how residents think about their town. The craft tradition is visible in how artisans and educational institutions keep this knowledge alive today.

The railway station here connects to nearby villages and larger regional centers, making it easy to explore the area. The location works well as a base for day trips into surrounding valleys and mountain regions.

Turin-inspired architecture marks many buildings here after 19th-century rebuilding. This Italian building style stands out as surprising in a French Alpine setting and catches the eye while walking the streets.
