Pointe de Chevran, Mountain summit in Giffre region, France
Pointe de Chevran is a mountain summit in the Savoy Prealps rising to about 1,220 meters above sea level. The peak takes on a distinctive cone shape and is surrounded by spruce forests on its middle slopes, with open alpine pastures defining the upper reaches.
The summit is part of the historic alpine landscape long used by shepherding communities. Its formal recognition in international cartographic records came only in 2018.
Local shepherds maintain traditional alpine farming practices in the Chevran pastures, continuing centuries-old methods of livestock management.
A well-marked trail system leads from Arâches-la-Frasse to the summit, covering roughly 7.7 kilometers on foot. The routes are generally walkable from spring through fall, and sturdy footwear with good grip and weather protection are advisable.
On clear days, the open sections of the summit offer views down to the town of Cluses far below in the valley. This vantage point reveals the sharp contrast between industrial settlements and the surrounding mountain wilderness.
