Place du Vieux-Marché, Central square in Rouen, France.

Place du Vieux-Marché is a central public square in Rouen surrounded by half-timbered buildings that line the streets and define the space. A modern church with a distinctive roof stands at its center alongside cafes, restaurants, and market stalls that animate the area throughout the day.

This location witnessed a pivotal moment in 1431 when a young woman was executed by fire during a major European conflict. The modern church was built in 1979 at this historically significant spot to honor and remember the past.

The modern church dominates the square with its boat-like roof shape and commands visitors' attention through its distinctive form. The stained glass windows inside tell religious stories and draw people in to experience them up close.

The square is easily walkable and offers plenty of seating to rest, with restrooms located nearby for visitor convenience. The area has many dining options to choose from, and the market operates on different days depending on the week.

Stained glass windows from a demolished church were rescued and incorporated into the modern building that stands here today. This blend of salvaged artwork with contemporary design creates an unusual connection between old and new.
