Barrême

Located at 722 meters altitude in southeastern France, Barrême extends over 137 square kilometers with a population density of 11 inhabitants per square kilometer.

First mentioned in charters from 1040 after being destroyed by fire, Barrême later became a fief of Villeneuve through an exchange by Queen Joanna I of Naples.

The geological museum of Barrême houses significant fossil collections, including specimens from paleontologist Louis Maurel that document the region's natural history.

The municipality offers various administrative services to residents, including civil status documentation, housing assistance, and guidance for official procedures at the town hall.

The town gave its name to the Barremian, a geological time period of the Early Cretaceous, contributing to the scientific understanding of Earth's history.
