Château de Montrichard, Medieval castle in Montrichard Val de Cher, France
The stone fortress stands on a hilltop above the Cher River, featuring a central keep and remaining defensive walls from its original construction.
Built in the 11th century by Count Foulques Nerra of Anjou, the castle served as a strategic stronghold during conflicts between French and English forces.
The castle grounds host medieval events throughout the year, showcasing traditional crafts, music, and regional gastronomy from the Loire Valley.
Visitors can climb to the top of the keep for views of the Cher Valley, with guided tours available in multiple languages from April through October.
Two royal weddings took place at the castle in the 1470s, when King Louis XI arranged marriages for his daughters Anne and Jeanne de France.
