Niedermunster Abbey, Abbey at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile, France
The stone structures of Niedermunster Abbey, constructed between 1150 and 1180, stand along the Alsace Wine Route near Saint-Nabor.
Founded by Saint Odile around 700 AD, the abbey functioned together with Saint Odile Abbey until their separation in the early 13th century.
The central well of Niedermunster Abbey holds significance in local traditions for its association with healing properties for eye conditions.
Visitors can access the abbey ruins through marked pathways with information panels, with the nearest train station located 7 kilometers away.
The abbey once housed notable relics, including fragments believed to be from the Holy Cross, brought by knights following a wandering camel in 799.
