Truttenhausen, Medieval abbey ruins in Heiligenstein, France.
The remaining structures of Truttenhausen Abbey include a reconstructed church from 1468, a Romanesque porch tower modified in 1490, and late Gothic elements.
Founded in 1186 by Abbess Herrade de Landsberg, the abbey served as a residence for Augustinian monks and provided accommodations for pilgrims until 1555.
The abbey complex contained two sanctuaries: a chapel for Virgin Mary and a conventual church dedicated to Saint Nicholas with a cloister for twelve canons.
The site stands as a private property, allowing visitors to view the architectural elements and historical remnants exclusively from the exterior areas.
The property features an English garden with century-old trees surrounding the preserved medieval structures, now managed by the Turckheim family since 1800.
