Château Pape Clément, Historical wine estate in Pessac, France.

Château Pape Clément is a wine estate with roughly 30 hectares of vineyards surrounding a grand stone mansion featuring classical architecture and detailed stone carvings. The property combines grape cultivation with a historic house that has been maintained by the same family for generations.

The name comes from Pope Clement V, who planted the first vines in 1300 while serving as Archbishop of Bordeaux. Since then, the land has been continuously cultivated and remains among the region's oldest working vineyards.

The estate maintains traditional Bordeaux winemaking practices visible in its stone vat house, where grapes are processed using time-honored techniques. These methods connect visitors to how the region has produced wine for centuries.

Visitors can participate in guided tours and wine tastings throughout the week, though advance planning helps secure a time that fits your schedule. Checking opening hours before arrival allows you to make the most of your visit.

The property has been making wine continuously for more than 700 years without a break, making it one of the longest-running vineyard operations in the world. This uninterrupted tradition means visitors stand at a place where winemaking knowledge has been passed down through countless generations.
