Kernourz dolmen, Megalithic burial structure in Le Bono, France

Kernourz dolmen is a prehistoric burial structure with two connected corridors arranged in an elbow shape and surrounded by a large circular earthen mound. Multiple large capstones are supported by numerous upright stones and masonry, creating an enclosed chamber system.

This structure dates to around 3000 BCE and belongs to a group of similar elbow-shaped dolmens scattered between the Loire and Blavet river valleys. Later burial additions were made to the site during subsequent periods of occupation.

The rear corridor displays carved stones with intricate patterns that reflect the artistic expressions of prehistoric communities in this region. These decorations show that such burial places held deep meaning for the people who created them.

The site is accessible year-round and sits within a rural landscape where you can explore the structure from the surrounding ground. Sturdy footwear is recommended as the terrain around it is uneven and access to interior areas may be limited.

Centuries after the original construction, six circular graves containing cremated remains were built around the monument. These later burials show that the site retained sacred meaning for people across many generations.
