Château d'Ollwiller, Heritage château in Wuenheim, France.
Château d'Ollwiller is a heritage château in Wuenheim that operates as a working wine producer growing varieties such as Crémant d'Alsace and Riesling Grand Cru. The estate spans agricultural land with south-facing slopes and uses its marly soil to cultivate wines that carry regional designations.
The château was founded in 1230 by the Waldner family as a property for the Bishop of Strasbourg and has shaped the region ever since. After its destruction during World War I, the building was reconstructed and remains an active estate today.
The château represents a blend of aristocratic residence and working wine estate that shaped how people in Alsace think about vineyard properties. Walking through the grounds, you can sense how the building and the surrounding vines were always meant to function together.
The grounds are open and easy to navigate with the south-facing slopes providing clear views of the vineyard areas. Visitors should explore on foot as the terrain is somewhat rolling, making sturdy footwear recommended.
Only two châteaux in all of Alsace are authorized to market wines under the château denomination, and this property is one of them. This rare approval reflects special recognition of the quality and longevity of the place.
