Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées Airport, Commercial airport in Ossun, France
Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées Airport is a commercial aerodrome situated across four municipalities in the Hautes-Pyrénées region. The facility operates a 3000-meter runway designed to accommodate large aircraft and serves passengers through a two-level terminal building.
The airport opened in May 1948 as a regional facility and gradually expanded its operations. Growth accelerated in the following decades as international air services began connecting the region to broader networks.
The facility gained recognition in 1983 when Pope John Paul II arrived for his first visit to Hautes-Pyrénées, greeted by President François Mitterrand.
The airport is easily accessible from the A64 motorway with free parking available for travelers. The terminal building is well-organized across two levels with amenities and services throughout.
A Concorde supersonic aircraft landed here in 1978, demonstrating advanced aviation capabilities. This event showed the airport could handle exceptional aircraft operations and technology.

Around the world, thousands of airplanes, ships, and vehicles reach the end of their service life and are sent to storage or dismantling sites. These locations mark the final destinations of transportation machines: some wait in the Arizona desert where over 4,000 military aircraft are preserved thanks to the dry climate, others are anchored in Suisun Bay in California as strategic reserves, while still others are dismantled at industrial sites in Chittagong, Bangladesh, where workers recover metal from large commercial ships. Some of these sites have taken unusual forms: in Bangkok, former passenger planes have been converted into homes where residents live; in Alliance, Nebraska, 39 gray cars replicate the exact arrangement of Stonehenge. From Roswell to rusted wrecks in Staten Island and abandoned radioactive vehicles near Chernobyl, these locations tell the comprehensive story of machines that have transported generations of travelers and goods.
