The structure at 39 rue du Château d'Eau measures only 1.10 meters in width and 5 meters in height between two larger buildings.

The construction of this narrow house resulted from a family inheritance dispute over a passageway between rue du Château d'Eau and rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin.

The current retail space operates within approximately 3 square meters of ground floor area, making efficient use of the limited space.

The upper floor once contained a bedroom where a single cradle occupied the entire available space according to an 1897 newspaper article.
