Château de Kérouzéré

Château de Kérouzéré, Granite castle in Sibiril, France

Château de Kérouzéré is a granite fortress in Brittany with four stacked levels containing a kitchen, shared living areas, and private rooms facing west. The layout shows how a fortified residence was organized during its period.

The castle was built in the first half of the 15th century for Jean and Yves de Kérouzéré, who worked for the dukes of Brittany. Its construction reflects the period when fortified residences remained essential for both defense and noble status.

The interior walls display paintings from the 17th century that reflect how residents of that era decorated their living spaces. These artworks reveal the tastes and personal style of former inhabitants.

The castle is easiest to visit during the summer months when tours are regularly scheduled. Outside this season, it's best to check in advance about visiting possibilities.

This is the last inhabited fortified residence in the Finistère region, owned by the same family since 1821. This unbroken family occupation spanning more than two centuries sets it apart.
