The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Loroy features a rectangular cloister measuring 46 by 34 meters with remaining facades and roofs from the 18th century.
Founded in 1125 by Archbishop Vulgrin of Bourges, the abbey received royal protection from King Louis VI and established a daughter abbey in Élan.
The abbey influenced literature when author Alain-Fournier incorporated its setting into his novel Le Grand Meaulnes following his sister's visits.
The monument requires preservation efforts and maintenance work, with specific protected elements including the facades, roofs, and ruins of the original church.
A stable boy's negligence caused a devastating fire in 1661, leading to extensive damage that remained unrepaired for nearly one hundred years.
