Château de la Madeleine

Château de la Madeleine is a castle in Normandy featuring four distinct wings arranged around a central courtyard, each displaying different architectural styles from neogothic to neo-Renaissance. The property includes an 11-hectare park and both the building and grounds received official historical monument status in 2002.

The site originally housed a priory dedicated to Mary Magdalene founded in 1129. The castle itself was built in 1772 by Abbot Charles Morin du Marais Vernier.

The estate's name references Mary Magdalene and reflects its origins as a religious community. Visitors can still sense this spiritual connection when walking through the grounds and examining the building's traditional layout.

The property is undergoing continuous restoration work by its current owners, which may affect visitor access at certain times. It is best to check conditions before planning a visit to the estate.

In 1932, architect Francisco Gianotti added an Art Deco wing that created an unusual blend of classical and modern design. This addition makes the castle a rare example of how different architectural periods can coexist in a single Norman building.
