Église de Saint-Nectaire, Romanesque church in Saint-Nectaire, France.
The Église de Saint-Nectaire is a Romanesque church in the Auvergne region that rises high on Mount Cornadore. Inside, approximately 103 carved capitals display biblical scenes and local religious motifs throughout the space.
Construction began in 1080 under Benedictine monks from La Chaise-Dieu Abbey. The building phases extended over decades, creating the structure visitors see today.
The church holds medieval religious objects in its treasury that pilgrims have venerated for centuries. These pieces reflect the spiritual devotion that shaped the region and continue to draw visitors today.
The site sits on an elevated location and the surrounding area allows for exploring both the building and its setting. Wear comfortable shoes, as Mount Cornadore has some elevation and the paths can be steep.
The church houses reliquaries that pilgrims have venerated for centuries while traveling to Santiago de Compostela. These objects made it an important stop along one of Europe's great pilgrimage routes.
