Château de Meauce, Medieval fortress in Saincaize-Meauce, France.

The castle stands on a feudal mound overlooking the Allier River, featuring thick defensive walls reaching over three meters in width at certain points.

The first mention of the Lords of Meauce dates back to 1070, with architectural elements from the first quarter of the 12th century still visible today.

The castle grounds span 13 hectares within the protected natural area of Bec d'Allier, home to 5,000 cranes, Canadian geese, kites, and storks.

After extensive abandonment from 1834 to 2016, the castle underwent restoration work under new ownership with support from cultural ministry services.

The circular structure of the castle follows the shape of its ancient feudal mound foundation, distinguishing it from other fortifications in the region.
