Château du Marais, Nièvre

Château du Marais is a castle situated on an island surrounded by moats, featuring two round towers on its north side facing the Loire River. The main structure contains three bedrooms within its keep, known as the Chambre du Roy, Alcove, and Poterne rooms.

Construction of this castle dates to the 14th century, when it was first known as Marisium before later becoming Maretz and eventually Marais-les-Nevers. These name changes mark the property's evolution through different periods of ownership and local governance.

The chapel here was consecrated in 1517 and displays fleur-de-lis patterns on its walls, reflecting the religious importance of the property. These decorative elements show how deeply tied the household was to the French crown's symbolism.
