The Promenade des Remparts is a footpath along Nevers' medieval city walls, running from the Porte du Croux gate down to the Loire River. The route passes through gardens and stops at viewpoints overlooking the city and valley.
Construction of the wall began in the 12th century to defend the city, and it was reinforced later during regional conflicts. These fortifications helped protect the city for several centuries.
The gardens along the walls show how plants were cultivated in medieval times, with herbs and flowers that preserve old traditions. Visitors can see how these green spaces were part of daily life in the fortified city.
The path is easy to walk and well marked, with several rest spots along the way. You can explore it in either direction and set your own pace.
