Château de Montmelas

The castle features a cylindrical keep dominating a quadrangular enclosure with defensive walls surrounding a large courtyard and wooded park of 20 hectares.

First documented in 977, the fortress belonged to the Sires de Beaujeu before becoming property of Jean Arod in 1566, who died defending it in 1593.

The estate produces Beaujolais wines while preserving its medieval heritage through architectural elements from the 15th and 16th centuries within its stone walls.

Visitors can schedule guided tours, participate in wine tastings, stay overnight in guest rooms, and organize professional events within the castle grounds.

The castle walls display a particular 'fishbone' masonry style from the 12th century, visible in sections of the original stone construction.
