The Saint-Martin-des-Glandières Abbey spreads across 1.5 hectares of land, featuring a chapel, ancient buildings, and a former fish pond for monastery supplies.
Founded in 587 by Duke Bodogisel of Aquitaine, the monastery experienced four reconstructions throughout centuries, with major renovations in 1427, 1552, and the 17th century.
The chapel contains post-World War II stained glass windows created by artists Emmanuel Simminger and his son, adding artistic elements to the religious structure.
The abbey now functions as a specialized healthcare center, providing medical and social services under the management of healthcare insurance organizations.
An old millstone from the original monastery remains integrated into the current structure, connecting the modern facility to its medieval origins.
