Ruisseau d'Alistro, Brook in San-Giuliano, France.
Rivière d'Alistro is a river in Haute-Corse that flows from the inland mountains down to the Tyrrhenian Sea, passing through the area of San-Giuliano. It creates a natural corridor connecting the island's interior highlands with the coastal plain.
A defensive tower called Torra d'Alistru was built in the 16th century to guard the coastline from raids and attacks on this vulnerable stretch. The structure was part of Corsica's network of fortifications defending against maritime threats during that period.
Local residents have traditionally relied on the river for daily activities and small boat access, a practice that continues in the communities along its path. The waterway connects the mountains to the sea and shapes how people in this region experience their surroundings.
The D17 road runs beside the river, offering easy access to different vantage points along the way. Visitors can best experience the area by walking sections of the riverbank, which provides views from the foothills down to the coast.
At its mouth, the river meets Alistro Beach, where the flowing water mixes with sand and salt marshes to form a rare wetland environment. This blend of fresh and salt water creates habitat for specialized plants and animals found only in such transition zones.
