Barrage de Sénéchas, Flood control dam in Malbosc, France.
The Barrage de Sénéchas stretches 240 meters in length and rises 58 meters high across the Cèze River, forming a reservoir of 25 hectares.
Engineers constructed this water management structure between 1973 and 1976 following destructive floods that affected Bessèges and Saint-Ambroix in 1958.
The construction of the dam resulted in the submersion of the Sauto Cabro megalithic site, which generated discussions about infrastructure development versus heritage preservation.
The structure maintains a standard capacity of 3 million cubic meters of water, with the ability to expand to 16 million cubic meters during flood events.
The dam creates a forked lake where two branches form at the confluence of the Homol River and the Cèze River.
