Château Bel-Air, Historic château in Le Haillan, France
Château Bel-Air is a two-story building constructed in 1820, located in Le Haillan and combining rough and dressed stone with slate and tile roofing. The grounds contain nine football fields, a hockey field, swimming pool, changing rooms, a training center, and several bungalows spread across the property.
The building was constructed in 1820 and later became significant in local history. During World War II, German forces used it as a munitions depot, and an explosion in 1944 caused damage to the surrounding woodlands.
The property once carried the name Bourdieu de Lanneblanque when it functioned as a private estate with deep roots in the region. Today visitors see a sports complex that houses the administrative headquarters of FC Girondins de Bordeaux, blending past identity with contemporary purpose.
The grounds offer clear layout with training facilities designed for various sports. Visitors should plan to set aside sufficient time to explore the many areas and facilities spread across the complex.
The site was the location of the Battle of Haillan during the Hundred Years' War when Bordeaux refused entry to French troops. This historical connection reveals how a place has played different roles across centuries.
