Château de Forges

The Château de Forges is a medieval castle in Concremiers featuring a quadrilobate keep encircled by four round towers for defense. Five additional towers with arrow slits are positioned along the walls to provide extra protection and surveillance of the surrounding area.

The castle was built on an ancient mound overlooking the left bank of the Anglin River as part of medieval fortifications against English invasions. Its elevated position made it a key military stronghold during this period of cross-border conflict.

The castle's architecture reveals how 15th century French builders mixed rough limestone with carefully shaped stone to create strength and defense. These construction choices tell the story of how medieval craftspeople adapted their methods to the materials available to them.

The castle welcomes visitors during Heritage Days in September and offers guided tours by appointment throughout the year. Overnight accommodation is available for those who wish to stay on the grounds.

The current family has owned the castle for many generations, tracing their line directly back through Jean de Poix and beyond. This unbroken succession of ownership across centuries is rare and reflects the stability this place has maintained through French history.
