Château de La Voulte

Château de La Voulte is a castle with multiple building sections including guard quarters, outbuildings, two watchtowers, and a chapel constructed from local lava stone and slate tiles. These different structures form a connected complex built from materials found in the volcanic landscape.

Construction began in the 16th century under Nicolas de Beauclair and continued through the 18th century with successive modifications. The building phases spanning two centuries show how the family and their needs evolved over time.

The name refers to the location in a valley, and the building materials reflect local stone traditions specific to the volcanic region. Rooms and spaces within show how the noble families lived and used their home over time.

The castle remains privately owned by the heirs of the François-Marsal family and is normally not open to casual visitors. Check ahead to see if special viewings or tours can be arranged.

During the ownership of former deputy Frédéric François-Marsal, gardens and terraces were added around the buildings. These green spaces continue to shape the appearance of the property today.
