Château du Tourvéon, 18th century castle in Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or, France.
Château du Tourvéon is a classical castle set on a hillside in Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or, built in the middle of the 19th century. The estate is surrounded by a park designed by landscape architect Luizet that shapes the surroundings to this day.
The Murard family acquired the land in the 18th century and chose to demolish the original building to create a new residence. The current structure was built in 1854, completely replacing what had stood on the site before.
The château reflects how wealthy Lyon families of the 1800s used such estates as retreats from city life. Its classical design shaped the village's character and continues to influence the appearance of Collonges today.
The château is located roughly 14 kilometers from Lyon and can be viewed from outside, though it has been converted into residential apartments. After major renovation work in the early 2000s, the estate with its grounds remains a point of interest for visitors to the area.
The château hosted a notable visitor in 1944 when Marshal Pétain stayed there after visiting wounded soldiers at a Lyon hospital. This historical moment connects the private estate to a significant wartime event.
