Abode of Chaos, Contemporary art museum in Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d'Or, France.
Musée L'Organe is a museum for contemporary art in Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d'Or, housed in a converted 17th-century post house that shows around 2,500 artworks. The exhibition rooms spread across several floors and the outdoor grounds, where burned vehicles, replicated building facades, and large-scale installations stand between old stone walls.
Thierry Ehrmann founded the museum in 1999 inside his family house, turning it into a space for experimental art. The conversion and expansion of the grounds triggered legal disputes with local authorities over the years.
Artists often create their works directly on-site, turning the grounds into a stage that changes with each new contribution. The collection grows through these ongoing additions, making themes of conflict and societal change visible in ways visitors can walk through and touch.
The museum opens only on Saturdays and Sundays between 14:00 and 17:00, giving visitors time to explore both areas. Pathways lead through multiple rooms and across the large outdoor grounds, where some installations can become slippery when wet.
The outer facade shows replicated scenes from conflict zones, including fallen towers and barrier walls, which look out of place in the rural setting. These reproductions stand right next to vineyards and residential homes, creating a deliberate contrast with the peaceful village landscape.
