Château de Rochetaillée-sur-Saône

Château de Rochetaillée-sur-Saône is a castle built on a rocky ridge that rises above the Saône Valley and offers wide views across the surrounding landscape. The building was modified and enlarged over the centuries, mixing medieval features with architectural changes made in later periods.

The castle was built in the 12th century and was soon transferred to the Church of Lyon, which shaped its fate for centuries. Later rebuilding in the 15th century changed its appearance and interior.

The castle houses the Henri Malartre Automobile Museum, which displays vintage cars and transportation objects spanning many decades. Visitors can walk through rooms filled with vehicles that tell the story of how people traveled over time.

The site is easy to reach and the path up is well marked, though some sections can be steep. The museum inside is organized on a single floor, making it straightforward to view the vehicle collection.

The castle preserves its original Romanesque gate and medieval chapel, giving visitors a direct impression of its early structure. These well-kept elements offer a window into the place's origins before later changes altered its form.
