Château d'Igé

Château d'Igé is a medieval castle with a quadrilateral layout and three circular towers on its southern facade, surrounded by a moat crossed by stone bridges. The structure has been maintained over time and now operates as a four-star hotel with ten rooms and seven suites.

The castle emerged in the Middle Ages as a symbol of local feudal power in Burgundy. During the French Revolution in 1789, villagers stormed it, marking the start of a peasant uprising in the Mâconnais region.

The castle displays features of Burgundian architecture with vaulted ceilings, original fireplaces, and authentic terracotta tiles from the region. These details shape the character of the rooms and reflect building traditions that have been maintained in this area for centuries.

The castle lies about 15 minutes from Mâcon and Cluny and roughly one hour from Lyon, making it easily accessible. Visitors should allow enough time to explore both the interior rooms and the outdoor grounds.

The castle grounds contain a four-hectare park with a natural spring, rose garden, stream, small bridge, and orchard with century-old trees. This quiet outdoor space offers guests a place to walk and find peace beyond the interior spaces.
