Château de Reynel

Château de Reynel is a castle sitting on a steep spur between Chaumont and Neufchâteau. The main residence is accompanied by two rectangular pavilions oriented toward the east.

The lordship of Reynel was elevated to county status in the 8th century and served as a defensive position against the Holy Roman Empire and Lorraine. This role shaped its importance in regional history.

The rooms display 18th-century furnishings and decorations, with an oval salon featuring carved details. You can see how inhabitants organized their living spaces, particularly in the library with its period wood paneling.

Visits work best during warmer months when guided tours are offered. The location is accessible by road from nearby towns, so plan travel time accordingly.

The castle houses a notable painting collection, including a work by Jef Leempoels. This artwork depicts a scene dealing with fate and human existence.
