Château du Boy, Medieval castle in Lanuéjols, France
The Château du Boy is a stone castle in Lanuéjols featuring a large courtyard and detailed stonework across its facade. The building combines architectural styles from different periods into one structure.
The castle was founded around 1369 on the site of Mas del Boy and served as a residence for the Tournel lords for centuries. Major restoration work occurred after the French Wars of Religion ended.
The main hall displays carved woodwork that shows how French nobility lived and used their spaces. Walking through, you can see the craftsmanship that decorated their daily surroundings.
The castle now functions as a rehabilitation center and can be visited through organized tours. Information about guided visits is available from the Pays d'art et d'histoire Mende et Lot.
During a plague outbreak in 1721 in Gévaudan, the castle served as shelter for infected people. This unexpected role showed how the place transformed from a noble home into a refuge for the community.
