Saint Pierre Cemetery, Historical cemetery in La Timone, Marseille, France.
Saint Pierre Cemetery extends over 63 hectares of land, making it the largest burial ground in Marseille and third largest in France.
The cemetery opened its gates in December 1863 to replace the Saint Charles Cemetery, which had become insufficient for the growing urban population.
The mausoleum of Camille Olive combines Catholic and Islamic architectural elements, reflecting the multicultural character of nineteenth-century Marseille.
The cemetery contains dedicated sections for different communities, with organized pathways leading visitors through various areas containing notable graves and sculptures.
Sculptor André-Joseph Allar created multiple works for the cemetery, including L'homme à la harpe and Une pleureuse, which stand among the graves.
