Château de la Napoule, Medieval castle and art museum in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, France.

Château de la Napoule is a castle on the Mediterranean coast built from medieval foundations and expanded with artistic additions from the 20th century. The structure spreads across multiple levels with exhibition rooms, gardens, and collections that visitors move through at their own pace.

The castle was founded in 1358 and served different purposes for centuries until American artist Henry Clews Jr. acquired it in the early 20th century. His artistic vision transformed the fortress into a creative center that continues to this day.

The name "La Napoule" derives from an old word for tower, shaping the identity of this coastal stronghold. Visitors encounter artist residencies and creative spaces throughout, making it a center where art and architecture come together naturally.

Book guided tours to make sense of the rooms and gardens effectively. Wear comfortable shoes because the multiple staircases and uneven paths between levels are physically demanding.

The sculptures scattered throughout the castle were created by Henry Clews Jr. himself and depict mythological creatures and fantastical figures. These works turn visitors into explorers who encounter artistic surprises around every corner.
