Epomanduodurum, Archaeological site in Mandeure, France
The excavation area spans over 500 hectares within a meander of the Doubs River, containing numerous Roman structures and urban remains.
The settlement emerged during the late Iron Age and developed into a major Gallo-Roman town, second in importance only to Besançon-Vesontio.
The archaeological complex includes temples, public buildings, and an artisan quarter that illustrates the daily life of ancient inhabitants.
Researchers employ geophysical methods, including electrical imaging and ground radar, to study the extensive underground structures without excavation.
The site contains a sacred area of 10 hectares enclosed by walls with monumental entrances and multiple temple configurations.
