Fontaines de la Concorde, Monumental fountains in Place de la Concorde, Paris, France
The Fontaines de la Concorde consist of two symmetrical cast iron fountains flanking the central Egyptian obelisk in Place de la Concorde.
Jacques Ignace Hittorff designed these fountains, completed in 1840 during King Louis-Philippe's reign, following the completion of Canal de l'Ourcq water supply.
The north fountain represents maritime commerce while the south fountain celebrates river navigation, both featuring sculptures of water deities and French industries.
The fountains operate through gravity-fed water systems and remain accessible through the Concorde metro station on lines 1, 8, and 12.
Twelve different sculptors contributed to creating the bronze figures that adorn these fountains, working under strict supervision to maintain design consistency.
