Forêt de Suzac

Forêt de Suzac is a protected coastal woodland spanning 350 hectares with limestone cliffs, maritime pines, and holm oaks distributed throughout. The forest extends from Saint-Georges-de-Didonne to Meschers-sur-Gironde with multiple walking paths that vary in difficulty and terrain.

The site underwent significant changes during the 1960s when tourism expanded in the region. Official protection status was established in 1982 to preserve the landscape and its ecosystems.

Locals and visitors gather here to walk among the trees and experience the coastal landscape without leaving their region. The forest serves as a place where people reconnect with nature through informal exploration and quiet time.

The forest offers multiple entry points with clearly marked paths that vary in length and terrain. Wear sturdy footwear as some sections include steep grades and uneven ground requires careful footing.

Limestone meadows within the forest host rare plants including pink garlic and maritime iris that bloom in June. These specific growing conditions support the survival of protected dune carnations found nowhere else nearby.
