Halle aux farines, University building in Paris Rive Gauche district, France.
Halle aux farines is a former grain storage building converted into a modern university facility located on Quai Panhard-et-Levassor in Paris. The five-story structure houses lecture halls, classrooms, and computer rooms for student use.
The building was constructed in 1950 by architect Denis Honegger as a grain storage facility and served for decades along the Seine. Between 2004 and 2006, it was transformed into a university building under the direction of Nicolas Michelin.
The building is part of Campus des Grands Moulins and demonstrates how a former industrial site became a place of learning. Students use the spaces daily, creating a new purpose for a location that once stored grain.
The building is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Saturdays until 8:00 PM, providing modern facilities for students. The location is well served by public transport and offers standard workspaces for teaching and learning.
The building makes extensive use of wood in its construction, giving it a warm appearance despite its industrial past. The combination of wooden details and efficient energy performance shows how modern renovations can respect traditional materials.
