Promenade plantée Arthur-Rimbaud, Elevated linear park in 13th arrondissement, France.
The Promenade plantée Arthur-Rimbaud is an elevated public walkway in Paris built on a former railway viaduct that rises above street level. Its length is lined with flowering gardens, mature trees, and planted borders that create a green corridor spanning the 13th arrondissement.
The viaduct was built in the late 1800s as a railway line and operated for decades as a key transport route through the city. When rail service ended, the unused structure sat dormant until the 1990s when city planners converted it into a public green walkway.
The promenade bears the name of French poet Arthur Rimbaud and features art installations connecting literature with modern urban design.
The walkway is freely accessible from ground level at several points, though you will need to climb stairs or use ramps to reach the main path. Wear comfortable shoes since the paved surface can become slippery in wet conditions.
The walkway splits into two distinct levels at certain points, allowing pedestrians to gaze out while remaining completely separated from car traffic below. This two-level design makes it feel like a floating garden suspended above the urban bustle.

This cultural route, highly diverse, explores Paris beyond its usual landmarks, revealing a city of art collections, green spaces, and varied architecture. The itinerary includes the Musée Marmottan Monet, which houses more than 300 paintings by the artist, squares like Parc Monceau with its columns and 18th-century pavilions, and urban ensembles such as Place des Vosges, completed in 1612 under Henri IV. The circuit also passes through Île Saint-Louis, where mansions line the quays since the 17th century, and crosses the Marais district, with its narrow streets filled with galleries and museums inside historic aristocratic houses. The route extends to the Fondation Louis Vuitton in the Bois de Boulogne, a glass and steel building designed by Frank Gehry, opened in 2014. Other stops include lesser-visited spots such as Coulée verte René-Dumont, a 4.7 km planted promenade on an old railway, and Parc de Bercy with its three themed gardens. This circuit allows visitors to see different facets of Paris, from the catacombs under the 14th arrondissement to the colorful facades of rue Crémieux, from the flower market on Île de la Cité to César's large-scale sculpture in La Défense.
Green spaces and parks in suburban Paris offer various options for relaxation and leisure, with natural environments ranging from large forests to landscaped gardens. These sites allow enjoying nature close to the capital, whether for walks, sports activities, or simply resting. Among the main natural areas, Montmorency Forest extends over 2,000 hectares (4,940 acres) in the north of Paris and features 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) of trails for hiking and biking. Sceaux Park covers 180 hectares (445 acres) of French-style gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, complemented by a castle and water features. The Saint-Cloud national estate covers 460 hectares (1,137 acres) on a hill overlooking the Seine, with gardens, fountains, and wide views of Paris. La Courneuve Park spans 415 hectares (1,025 acres) and includes lakes, woods, and meadows. Other sites include the Val-de-Marne Rose Garden, with 3,000 varieties of roses, and the Jardin d'Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne, completing this diverse selection.
