Grande-Côte

Grande-Côte is a sandy beach on the Charente-Maritime coast that stretches for several kilometers and is bordered by pine forests and sand dunes. The shoreline offers gentle access to the water and includes distinct zones for different water activities and recreation.

The beach was fortified during World War II as part of coastal defense lines, with concrete bunkers built along the water's edge. These structures remain visible today and shape the character of the entire bay.

The beach features separate zones for different activities, creating a space where visitors can choose their preferred way to enjoy the coast. One section serves as a designated naturist area, reflecting how this coast adapts to diverse visitor preferences and needs.

The beach has lifeguards and first aid stations during summer months, with restrooms and parking near the esplanade area. Access to the shore is straightforward, and there is enough space to find a quiet spot even during peak season.

A special zone on the beach serves as a launching area for sailboats during summer months, allowing water sports enthusiasts to dock and depart from shallow water. This shared use makes the bay a vibrant gathering point for different types of water sports activities.
