Hôtel de Caumont, Art center in Mazarin district, Aix-en-Provence, France.
Hôtel de Caumont is an art center housed in a private mansion built during the 18th century, situated within the historic district. The building contains multiple exhibition spaces of varying sizes, from small intimate rooms to large galleries for displaying both contemporary and classical artworks.
Architect Georges Vallon designed the mansion in 1742 as a residence for a wealthy family. After serving as a private home for generations, it underwent major restoration and opened to the public as an art center in 2015.
The mansion served as home to wealthy families and reflects how the provincial aristocracy lived during its early centuries. Visitors can observe the different rooms and understand how they were used, from private quarters to grand reception halls.
The center is easily walkable from central Aix-en-Provence and sits within the old town. There is plenty of room to move through the galleries comfortably, and the layout is accessible for visitors with mobility needs.
The building preserves specialized rooms such as the Chinese salon and the Rinceaux room, each displaying its own decorative style from different periods. These rooms now serve as venues for concerts and art presentations, giving the space an unusual dual role as both exhibition space and performance venue.
