L'Autre Canal, Contemporary music venue in Nancy, France

L'Autre Canal is a concert hall in Nancy whose pale concrete facade is pierced by a wide recessed entrance framed in a thick curved red border, with a grid of tall glass panels above the doors. Inside, a large dark hall has a raised stage backed by a black wall bearing two large green chevron emblems, under exposed metal roof trusses and silver ventilation ducts. The architect was Anne-Françoise Jumeau of the agency Périphériques Marin+Trottin+Jumeau.

Local groups formed the association Autorisation de Chantier in 1996 to demand rehearsal and performance spaces in Nancy. A feasibility study followed in 1997, Isabelle Chaigne was recruited as project leader in 2000, and the Périphériques team was chosen in 2002. The first stone was laid in October 2005 by minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, and the venue opened on 16 March 2007 under Chaigne's direction; Henri Didonna took over in 2013.

L'Autre Canal is labelled a scène de musiques actuelles by the Ministry of Culture, and its programme reaches artists from the Grand Est and from the regions of the four neighbouring countries. Since 2019 it has also hosted Bon Moment, a festival combining music with wine and gastronomy.

L'Autre Canal stands at 3 boulevard du 26e Régiment d'Infanterie in Nancy, about ten minutes from place Stanislas. The hall is a flat-fronted concrete building whose entrance is framed by a thick curved red border; a small blue sign reading "L'Autre Canal" is fixed to a pole on the right. Look for the red frame to find the doors.

The building was designed by the agency Périphériques Marin+Trottin+Jumeau Architectes, selected in 2002; the architect Anne-Françoise Jumeau is credited with its realisation. The first stone was laid in October 2005 by the minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, and the hall opened on Friday 16 March 2007.
