Le Plateau, Contemporary art museum in 19th arrondissement, France
Le Plateau is a contemporary art center in the 19th arrondissement of Paris that displays rotating exhibitions of current artistic works. The space shows different types of media and installations that change regularly throughout the year.
This center was established in 2002 by a regional art funding organization to support contemporary artistic forms in the Paris area. This founding was part of a broader initiative to promote modern creative work.
The center's name comes from the building's plateau-like architecture, and the square in front was named Place Hannah Arendt at the initiative of founder Éric Corne. The center opened in 2002 through the association Vivre aux Buttes-Chaumont, which Corne presided over, in response to Bouygues' urban redevelopment of the neighborhood.
Le Plateau occupies 600 m² near the Buttes-Chaumont park and the Belleville district, in the 19th arrondissement. Temporary exhibitions are free and come with a full programme of guided activities. The entrance sits on Place Hannah Arendt, named at the initiative of founder Éric Corne.
