Le Phénix is the national stage of Valenciennes, inaugurated on 26 January 1998 after two years of works. The building holds a 750-seat grand théâtre and a 190-seat studio, plus a rehearsal space, a restaurant and an exhibition area. Its broad facade has a dark red upper section bearing the words "le phénix" in white, above a recessed dark band with glass entrances reached by two sloping grey ramps from a wide paved plaza.

Le Phénix opened on 26 January 1998 after two years of construction, as the national stage (scène nationale) of Valenciennes in the Nord department. It grew out of the cultural decentralisation policy launched by the Ministry of Culture in the 1960s, funded by the state and local authorities. In 2009 the ateliers nomades were set up, and in 2016 the Pôle Européen de Création opened.

The venue hosts theater productions, dance performances, concerts, and contemporary art exhibitions throughout the year for diverse audiences. Its varied program makes it a central gathering place for artists and culture enthusiasts in the city.
