Mont Coudon, Free flight site and limestone summit in Var, France.

Mont Coudon is a limestone summit near Toulon that belongs to the Monts Toulonnais range. The mountain displays distinctive white rock formations that stand out in the landscape and can be seen from considerable distances.

The mountain became strategically important and received a fortress at its summit to serve defense purposes. This military installation shaped its history through modern times.

French author George Sand documented her ascent of Mont Coudon in May 1861 within her travel journal titled Voyage dit du Midi.

The ascent requires moderate physical effort and passes through varied terrain with some steep sections. The best time to visit is during cooler months when the sun is less intense.

On certain days with specific wind conditions in fall and winter, visitors can spot distant mountain ranges from the summit that normally remain hidden. These far-reaching views result from rare atmospheric conditions that occur only a handful of times each year.
