Ouvrage Welschhof, Military fortification in Gros-Réderching, France
The structure contains three combat blocks connected by underground galleries, featuring machine gun positions, anti-tank weaponry, and retractable turrets at strategic points.
Built between 1934 and 1938 as part of the Maginot Line, the fortification surrendered to German forces on June 22, 1940 after intense artillery bombardment.
The fortification represents French military engineering of the 1930s through its network of combat installations, barracks, and underground utility systems.
The fortification includes ammunition storage rooms, command posts, kitchens, medical facilities, and diesel generators for power supply at 30 meters below ground.
Block 1 combines both entrance and combat functions, featuring a dual-purpose design with machine gun embrasures and a mixed-arms observation dome.
