Phare du Port des Saintes, Lighthouse in Les Saintes, Guadeloupe, France
The Phare du Port des Saintes is a small square tower painted white, topped by a light and standing in front of the landing stage at Anse du Bourg on Terre-de-Haut. Its shaft has rounded corners and horizontal indentations, with two small dark windows on the front face and a white crisscross metal railing around the lantern at the top. A rectangular wooden door is set into the white wall below the shaft, beside neighbouring buildings and a hill.
Christopher Columbus named the archipelago Los Santos in early November 1493, having sighted it around All Saints' Day. The lighthouse now marks the anse du Bourg, the landing stage of Terre-de-Haut, where boats come ashore in the village.
The lighthouse can be reached on foot from the paths around the harbor of Terre-de-Haut, the main village of the island group. Visiting in the early morning or late afternoon gives the best light conditions on the water.
The lighthouse marks the anse du Bourg, the landing stage of Terre-de-Haut, standing directly in front of the embarcadero. Christopher Columbus named the archipelago Los Santos in honour of All Saints' Day, having reached it in early November 1493.
