Morel, les Saintes

Morel is a volcanic summit rising from the Les Saintes archipelago with steep slopes covered in tropical vegetation and exposed volcanic rock formations. The trails traverse bare stone ridges offering expansive views across the surrounding islands and ocean.

The peak served as a strategic observation point during naval conflicts between European powers in the Caribbean throughout the 18th century. The elevated position allowed defenders to monitor and control approaching vessels and activities on the water.

Local fishermen reference the mountain's profile to locate traditional fishing grounds that have been used for generations in the surrounding waters.

The climb is possible during daylight hours from sunrise to sunset, with some trails exposed and requiring sturdy footwear. Bring plenty of water and prepare for changing terrain with steep sections throughout the route.

After rainfall, mineral deposits on the northern face of the mountain create natural color patterns visible across the volcanic stone. These markings shift in appearance depending on the angle of light, making them appear different throughout the day.
