Bassin Paradis, Natural pool in Capesterre-Belle-Eau, Guadeloupe
Bassin Paradis is a natural swimming pool near Capesterre-Belle-Eau formed by waterfalls from the Grosse Corde river. The pool sits surrounded by thick tropical forest that rises steeply on all sides.
The site became part of Guadeloupe's National Park, which developed marked trails and access points to the area. This conservation effort balanced public use with protection of the natural surroundings.
Local people visit regularly to swim and gather with family, especially on weekends, keeping alive a long tradition of using rivers and natural pools as social gathering places.
A roughly 15-minute hike from the parking area near Carbet Falls takes you down to the pool, starting with steep stairs. The path gets slippery when wet, so wear sturdy shoes with good grip, especially after rainfall.
The area contains two distinct water zones with different temperatures: one located about 200 meters upstream that runs warmer, and another downstream that stays cooler. This natural temperature difference comes from geothermal springs feeding the system at different points.
