Carbet Falls

Carbet Falls comprises three tiers of water that drop at different elevations along the Grand Carbet River, creating a series of cascades through a forested valley. The system flows through rocky terrain and dense vegetation, forming pools where visitors can see the water at each stage of its descent.

Early explorers documented these cascades during their voyages through the Caribbean, recording them as notable features of the island's landscape. The falls have remained a reference point in Guadeloupe's geography ever since.

Local people view these cascades as a natural landmark deeply connected to the island's volcanic identity and the spirit of the surrounding rainforest. Visitors encounter stories and traditions that shape how the community relates to this wild place.

The path to the second cascade is well-maintained and moves through forest terrain on relatively level ground, making it manageable for most visitors. Sturdy footwear is essential as the forest floor remains damp and stones can become slippery from constant moisture.

The water originates from thermal springs heated by La Soufrière volcano before flowing down as these cascades, making the stream a direct link to the volcano's interior heat. This geothermal connection is rarely discussed but shapes the entire hydrological system visitors walk through.
